MAL a one woman comedy circus by Rachelle Elie
Fringe Veteran & Winnipeg 2009 Best of Fest Winner Rachelle Elie brings you a New Dramatic Comedy. “MAL” runs from July 14th – July 24th at the ROCKER Theatre(above mondragon) as part of the Winnipeg Fringe Festival. This new play was created by the Team that brought you the 2008 Ottawa Fringe Festival OUTSTANDING COMEDY AWARD Winner Joe: The Perfect Man. James Keylon, former scene writer for Cirque de Soleil’s “Kooza”, acted as creative collaborator on this exciting piece.
“MAL” is a dramatic comedy that explores one woman’s journey through disaster and triumph. Featuring highlights from past Fringe Hit shows, this piece weaves through Rachelle’s closet of characters and delves deep into her comedic soul. A fatuous Psychic, a Bitter Birthday Clown, an Outrageous Hollywood Actress, and a Gregarious Macbeth Wannabee all lead her to embrace the Fool’s Path. Through surprise insights and revelation she steps into brilliance and finds her true calling.
A dynamic and original performer, Rachelle Elie has been developing her unique vision of contemporary society on world stages for over fifteen years. A graduate of Vancouver’s acclaimed Theatre School Studio 58 she has studied with such well-known clown/ physical comedy teachers as John Turner & Mike Kennard (Mump & Smoot), Karen Hines (Pochsy) and Philippe Gaulier (Sasha Baron Cohen). This award winning comedienne has been showcased on The Comedy Network and The Women’s Television Network. Rachelle lives with her obstetrician husband and two kids in Toronto.
