Please join us on Thursday, November 15, 2007 — on the eve of the 122nd anniversary of Louis Riel’s execution (Nov. 16, 1885) — for the Winnipeg launch of “Honoré Jaxon: Prairie Visionary” (Coteau Books, 2007), the first definitive biography of Louis Riel’s secretary in the Northwest Resistance of 1885. Author Donald B. Smith (Professor of History, University of Calgary) will be present to speak about the life and times of Honoré Jaxon, his exile from the Canadian Prairies after 1885, his involvement as a labour leader and anarchist in Haymarket Chicago (including his association with the anarchists Voltairine de Cleyre and Rudolf Rocker), his friendship with architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and much more!

A visual presentation that incorporates a set of 75 photographs will accompany the talk.

Rumour has it that there will be a performance of Canadian folk-singer James Keelaghan’s song “Honoré,” as part of the evening programme. Following the presentation and discussion, the event will be followed by a book-signing, drinks, and snacks downstairs at Mondragon.
